Asian stocks push higher as ECB hopes build

Hong Kong (AP) ? Asian stocks pushed higher Tuesday as expectations continued to build that European policymakers will unleash powerful measures to battle the continent's debt crisis.

Japan's Nikkei 225 stock average rose 0.6 percent to 8,690.41 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.9 percent to 19,753.35. South Korea's Kospi rose 1.9 percent to 1,878.11 while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 climbed 0.8 percent to 4,279.60. Benchmarks in Taiwan, Indonesia and New Zealand also rose.

Investors are pinning their hopes on a European Central Bank meeting later this week where many expect ECB President Mario Draghi to announce big plans to support the euro, following his comments last week that the bank is "ready to do what it takes" to save the beleaguered currency. Spain's borrowing costs have surged, raising the risk that one of Europe's biggest economies will need a potentially unaffordable bailout that would strain the euro currency union.

"It's all about the ECB at the moment," strategist Stan Shamu of IG Markets in Melbourne, said in a commentary. "Mr Draghi has made people believe we will see a strong policy response to the rise in peripheral European bond yields," Shamu said. He cautioned that the chances of investors being disappointed following Thursday's meeting are very high.

China's Shanghai Composite edged 0.1 percent lower to 2,108.49 as investors appeared unimpressed by a government announcement the day before that it will launch projects to attract private investments in energy, health and other industry sectors in an attempt to reverse an economic slump.

U.S. Federal Reserve policymakers are also meeting this week, adding to hopes of more monetary stimulus for the world's biggest economy.

In Hong Kong, shipbuilder China Rongsheng Heavy Industries Group tumbled 6.8 percent and developer Glorious Property Holdings Ltd. plunged 7.6 percent, following big drops on Monday. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said last week it froze the assets of another company controlled by Rongsheng and Glorious Property's Chairman Zhang Zhi Rong because it allegedly profited from inside information ahead of Chinese oil company CNOOC's plans to buy Canadian gas company Nexen. Rongsheng and Glorious have said the matter won't affect business.

On Wall Street on Monday, U.S. stocks fell as investors took a more wary approach, waiting for action from Europe's leaders to follow their talk. The Dow Jones industrial average fell less than 0.1 percent to close at 13,073.01. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 also edged down less than 0.1 percent to 1,385.30, while the Nasdaq dropped 0.4 percent to 2,945.84.

In currencies, the euro rose to $1.2290 from $1.2261 in late trading Monday. The dollar rose to 78.23 Japanese yen from 78.21 yen.

Oil prices rose. Benchmark crude for September delivery was up 7 cents to 89.91 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell 35 cents to $89.78 on Monday. In London, Brent crude was down 18 cents at $106.02 on the ICE Futures exchange.

Although currently based out of Somerville, Massachusetts, Pownall began his career as a staff photographer for the Chicago Tribune. His first three assignments were Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. He even photographed the 1968 rioting at the Chicago Democratic Convention. When Pownall moved to Boston, he became the New England assignment photographer for Rolling Stone Magazine. He worked for other magazines, as well as for Columbia, Epic, WEA and Capitol records companies. Aerosmith, Boston, The Cars, Meatloaf, J Geils Band, Queen and Liza Minelli, were among his band clients.

Kaminski Auctions will offer five of Ron Pownalls photographs: Ted Nugent at The Meadowlands, Rutherford, NJ, circa 1978 (estimated $ 1,600-$ 2,200), Bruce Springsteen at The Worcester Centrum, MA, circa 1984 (estimated $ 4,000-$ 6,000), Freddie Mercury at The Nassau County Coliseum, NY, circa 1977 (estimated $ 1,600-$ 2,200), Stephen Tyler in Tulsa, Oklahoma, circa 1978 (estimated $ 1,600-$ 2,000) and Elton John (estimated $ 1,600-$ 2,200) will be for sale.

The image of Elton John was taken on August 18, 1976 at The Sherry-Netherland Hotel in New York City. Taken using Kodachrome 64 film and on a Nikon F2 w/ 35mm f1.4 Nikkor lens, the photograph is printed on Fuji archival photographic paper and mounted in archival mat. The narrative included by the artist reads: The shot was for Rolling Stone Magazine, during the absolute pinnacle of Eltons popularity and his record-setting 7 sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden. However, he was resisting all interviewseven for Rolling Stone! Because I was working with his L.A. publicist (who also handles Queen), I thought for sure I could get throughbut nothing. (I was shooting all the shows at MSGarden at night, but the private, daytime interview was elusive.) I was camped-out with friends in Manhattan for a weekbut finally, a breakthrough. Elton was a captive in his hotel. He was in The Elizabeth Taylor Suite, at the Sherry-Netherland Hotel on Fifth Avenue. Fans were jamming the lobby and on the street below his window. It was fan craziness at its wildest. He couldnt leave. (He did sneak-out the service elevator once in a laundry cart). In any case, the Stone writer, Cliff Jahr, and I, had a t-shirt made which said Prisoner in NY and sent it to the hotel. The next morning I got a call that Mr. John would like to meet you at 2. Cliff and I were there promptly at 2, and interviewed and photod until 4just the three of us for over two hours. The shot was meant to show, with so much hustle and bustle of Fifth Ave below, that Elton was still a prisoner in his castle. And, as we were taking the window shows, fans from the sidewalk, 14 floors below, were screaming up each time he leaned out the window. He was a delightful chap to shootquiet offstage, but absolutely energized when the lights hit the stage.

Enbridge oil spill in Wisconsin makes it the 806th since 1999

It has been just over two years since the Enbridge Tar Sands oil pipeline near Marshall, MI erupted sending thousands of gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo River.

Yesterday, it has been reported that another Enbridge oil pipeline in Wisconsin was shut down after an estimated 1,200 barrels of oil were leaked.

Reuters reported, ?The U.S. Transportation Department?s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration is investigating the cause of the Enbridge crude oil pipeline failure in Wisconsin,? spokesman Damon Hill said in an email on Saturday, adding that an inspector had been sent to the location of the pipeline failure.

Reuters also reported, Just weeks ago, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board delivered a scathing report of Enbridge?s handling of the July 2010 rupture of its Line 6B near Marshall, Michigan, which led to more than 20,000 barrels of crude leaking into the Kalamazoo River.

First, this should be another clear indication that Enbridge cannot be trusted with human or environmental well being, since this is just one of over 800 oil spills and leaks from their pipeline system in recent years, according to a report from the Polaris Institute.

Secondly, even if the pipelines were ?safe,? the extraction and burning of oil, particularly the Canadian Tar Sands Oil is devastating to indigenous communities, wildlife, eco-systems and it contributes significantly to global warming, according to the group Tar Sands Watch.

Lastly, the fact that Enbridge is proposing new Tar Sands pipelines to go through Michigan should motivate and mobilize people to prevent that from happening. This was the message of activists who came to Lansing on July 18 to form a human oil spill, drawing attention to the criminal track record of Enbridge.

Alabama seeks Voting Rights Act clearance of redistricting plan

CLANTON, Alabama (Reuters) - Alabama wants a federal court in Washington to confirm that its redistricting plan for the state's Republican-controlled legislature does not violate the Voting Rights Act, the landmark 1960s law that bars discrimination on the basis of race or color.

The lawsuit filed on Thursday by Alabama's attorney general is required under a provision of the 1965 act that requires state and local governments with a history of discrimination to obtain federal approval when any electoral changes, such as redistricting, are proposed.

The latest 2010 Census showed population gains and losses in some metropolitan areas in Alabama, creating the need to redistrict legislative seats. Areas such as inner city Birmingham, the state's largest city, are losing residents, while nearby Shelby County, which is predominantly white, is gaining them.

Democratic critics of the redistricting plan say it is a bald bid by the Republicans to cement the gains they made during the 2010 elections, when Republicans took control of the Alabama House and Senate for the first time in 136 years. Republicans holds 60 of the 105 seats in the House and 22 of the 35 seats in the Senate.

"This is purely gerrymandering," said state Representative John Rogers, a Jefferson County Democrat who chairs the legislature's Black Caucus. "This is about Republicans staying in power, pure and simple."

The Voting Rights Act, passed during the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, was deemed necessary to fortify existing federal anti-discrimination laws, including the 15th Amendment guaranteeing the right of all citizen to vote. President Lyndon Johnson signed the law on August 6, 1965.

Section 5 of the Act requires prior approval, known as the "preclearance provision," from the U.S. Department of Justice - either through an administrative procedure or a three-judge panel of the U.S. District Court - of any voting changes in the states covered by the Voting Rights Act.

Thursday's lawsuit also asks the court to find the preclearance" provision unconstitutional if the judges do not grant a declaratory judgment.

SUIT HEADING FOR WASHINGTON

"For years, we have thought the ... preclearance rule was unconstitutional," said Joy Patterson, spokeswoman for Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange, an elected Republican. "There are two options available through the law - administrative and judicial. Alabama, like other states, has chosen the judicial option."

The case will be resolved by a three-judge District Court in the District of Columbia.

Shelby County, which is 85 per cent white, has also filed a petition with the U.S. Supreme Court to escape the expense and burden of the supervised elections required by the Voting Rights Act, arguing that the pre-clearance requirement unfairly targets selected governments based on an outdated formula.

The state's legal move is in part a rebuttal to a suit brought by Democrats and the state Black Caucus, according to state Representative Patricia Todd, a Democrat from Jefferson County.

Rogers, the Jefferson County Democrat, accused the state of "packing," black voters in black districts and white voters in white seats in order to sabotage white Democrats who traditionally poll well with black voters.

"White Democrats are going to be an endangered species," Rogers said.

Nevada Gaming Policy Committee Discuss Taxes, Licensing ...

The Gaming Policy Committee of Nevada convened on Wednesday?in part?to discuss online poker regulations, just months before the first online poker rooms go live.

In what will be the last meeting this year, talks gravitated towards topics that could have a significant impact on the upcoming implementation of Nevada?s online poker legislation: License suitability, liquidity, operator taxation and a timeline.

The question of who should receive a gaming license in Nevada is proving to be a complex question. Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, Mark Lipparelli previously acknowledged ?a policy for perfection will eliminate everybody from the landscape,? but the issue continues to surface.

In the meeting, Nevada regulators came under fire for their recent licensing of popular British bookmaker William Hill. Prior to its approval, the UK company was questioned about its relationship with Playtech Ltd-?operator of the iPoker Network that hosts William Hill?s online poker room?whose founder has a record of fraud and bribery, but the connection was not enough to prevent William Hill from receiving a Nevada Gaming license.

Last month Nevada approved IGT?s application for an interactive gaming license despite its prior operations in markets that were ?darker than grey.? A recent failure of a site on its network whose questionable business ethics have left players with little hope of recouping the funds they have on deposit with the site was not even brought up during the hearing.

In fact, Lipparelli praised IGT for bringing its online poker network into compliance with gaming laws in jurisdictions around the world. ?The board will look favorably on anyone who follows IGT?s lead,? he said.

Also discussed in the meeting was operator taxation: According to Lipparelli, online poker operators will pay 6.75% tax on cash games, and that certain poker tournaments may be untaxed. Such a tax rate would set it well below most European levels of operator taxation, which is commonly 10-20% of gross gaming revenue or even higher.

Top of the list of player concerns is when will online poker be available, and if Nevada alone will have enough traffic to make online poker viable in the state. Lipparelli indicated that the first casino operator licenses could be issued in the next two to three months. This timeline coincides with the comments made by South Point Casino CEO Michael Gaughan that his casinos? online poker room will be operational in September.

The issue of liquidity was also a topic during the meeting yesterday. It was proposed that legislation be modified to specifically allow Nevada to enter into compacts with other states and even other countries if such actions would not violate federal law.

Court Grants Injunction Against Caterina Fake?s Use Of The Name ?Pinwheel?

It looks like Flickr co-founder Caterina Fake may have to find a new name for her new product Pinwheel. A New York court has granted a preliminary injunction against Fake's startup 2bkco, which was requested by a startup called Pinweel. (When you look at the name, I think you can see where the conflict comes in.) The injunction was posted on Scribd by lawyer and blogger Venkat Balasubramani, and I've embedded it below. Fake sent me an email confirming its accuracy, though she declined to say what the company's response will be, because "we can't comment on pending legal matters." The Pinweel team sent a similarly terse statement, saying, "We can confirm that the federal court has issued a preliminary injunction that requires that Caterina Fake's company immediately cease their use of the Pinwheel name."

Hard lessons learned about online banking security | Security Bistro

Network World recently published an article about a small business owner that was a victim of online banking fraud who fought mightily to get her money back?first from the money mules working for the fraudster, and then from the bank whose lax security allowed the fraud to happen. First the highlights, and then we?ll discuss some of the lessons that small businesses ? or any business, really ? can take away from this fraud incident.

Village View Escrow is a small California firm that holds funds in escrow for real estate transactions. In March 2010 owner Michelle Marsico opened an email message telling her that a UPS delivery failed. She clicked on the attachment to get details and apparently nothing happened. That is, nothing that she could see. She shared the email with a staffer who also clicked on the attachment. In reality, they both were falling victim to a phishing scam that subsequently downloaded password-stealing malware to their PCs. What?s more, the malware disabled automated measures that required email notifications and multiple approvals of the wire transfers.

Shortly after that incident, there were 26 consecutive wire transfers from Village View?s accounts to 20 individuals around the world who had no legitimate or previous business with Marsico?s company. Within 2 days, Village View Escrow?s bank account was emptied of almost $450,000. Marsico?s bank at the time, Professional Business Bank, offered little help in recovering the money.

Marsico took matters into her own hands and contacted some of the U.S.-based recipients of the money. She had their contact information from the wire transfers.? In some cases, these money mules had no idea they were part of an illegal scheme; they thought they were part of a legitimate ?work at home? business. Some of them returned the money they had received to Marsico, allowing her to recover about $72,000 of her clients? money.

Then Marsico ended up battling her bank over liability for the remainder of the stolen funds?some $373,000. The bank argued that it had provided sufficient security to protect Marsico?s business. In this case, the so-called security consisted of a user name and password and little else. Village View sued the bank, contending that the authentication and funds transfer validation process was insufficient. In the end, the bank (now owned by Bank of Manhattan) settled the lawsuit for $600,000. Since there is little legal precedence over cases like this, it wasn?t clear who might have won the case if it had gone to trial. It?s quite likely that Marsico could have lost and been liable for all the money that wasn?t recovered from the fraudster.

Unfortunately, this incident isn?t unique. According to the FBI, wire transfer fraud cost U.S. businesses and organizations $100 million in 2009. Fraudsters are constantly looking for ways to get around controls put in place to prevent this type of crime.

There are a lot of lessons in this incident for small (as well as not-so-small) businesses, not the least of which is this: business owners, it?s up to you to protect your own interests. You cannot assume that someone else is looking out for you and will secure your business. Here are some specific things you can do:

Assume your business is a target of cyber thieves and build security measures into your processes. If you conduct financial transactions online, keep a clean PC for this purpose. That is, don?t use the same PC for financial transactions that you use for web browsing and email. The latter activities are prone to bringing malware to your computer. If you can?t afford to keep a separate computer, security expert Brian Krebs recommends you boot your computer using a read-only bootable Linux OS CD (known as a Live CD). Krebs? research shows that this type of financial fraud happens most often on Windows PCs that are completely taken over by thieves via malware. If computer security isn?t your forte, consider hiring a professional online security consulting service to help you setup your environment and procedures.

Educate yourself and your staff about phishing scams and other means by which PCs become infected and about good security practices. The Anti-Phishing Working Group offers tips on how to avoid becoming a victim to a scam.

Talk to your banker about maintaining or increasing security. Every business needs a layered approach to security these days. A username and password is simply not enough. There are plenty of new technologies and products that can increase security, but many of them have to be implemented on the bank?s side. If your bank is too relaxed about security, find another bank.

Understand the agreement you have with your bank regarding liability for fraud losses. Banks typically deny liability for commercial accounts, especially those of small businesses that lack the resources to fight to recover their losses. There is little legal precedence to provide guidance on which company ? yours or the bank ? will bear the brunt of financial losses.

If necessary, get an insurance policy that covers financial losses from fraudulent activity. Village View Escrow might be out of business today if the bank hadn?t settled the lawsuit. If you aren?t willing to gamble on your business, get an insurance policy that can provide peace of mind.

Michelle Marsico is lucky that her lawsuit was settled in her favor. Her business survived to operate another day. Will yours?

IMF cuts global growth forecast as emerging economies slow

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The International Monetary Fund on Monday cut its forecast for global economic growth and warned that the outlook could dim further if policymakers in the euro zone do not act with enough force and speed to quell their region's debt crisis.

In a mid-year health check of the world economy, the IMF said emerging market nations, long a global bright spot, were being dragged down by the economic turmoil in Europe. It said a drop in exports in these countries would combine with earlier policies meant to prevent overheating and slow growth more sharply than hoped.

The IMF shaved its 2013 forecast for global growth to 3.9 percent from the 4.1 percent it projected in April, trimming projections for most advanced and emerging economies. It left its 2012 forecast unchanged at 3.5 percent.

"Downside risks to this weaker global outlook continue to loom large," the IMF said. "The most immediate risk is still that delayed or insufficient policy action will further escalate the euro area crisis."

U.S. stocks closed slightly lower on Monday as investors worry about the economy losing steam.

The global lender said advanced economies would grow only 1.4 percent this year and 1.9 percent in 2013.

It also trimmed its forecast for emerging economies, projecting they will expand 5.9 percent in 2013 and 5.6 percent in 2012. Both figures are 0.1 of a percentage point lower than in April.

The IMF cut its 2013 growth forecast for the crisis-hit euro zone to 0.7 percent, while maintaining its projection of a 0.3 percent contraction this year. It said it now believes Spain's economy will shrink both this year and next.

The IMF sharply revised down its growth projections for the United Kingdom to 0.2 percent this year and to 1.4 percent in 2013. In April, the fund said the UK economy would expand 0.8 percent in 2012 and 2.0 percent next year.

Central banks in China, the euro zone and Britain have all eased monetary policy in recent weeks to support growth. The U.S. Federal Reserve has said it is poised to do more if needed.

The IMF said the European Central Bank had room to ease policy further and said officials in emerging economies should stand ready to cope with a drop in trade and increased volatility in capital flows.

MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, BUT ...

The fund praised crisis-fighting measures adopted by European leaders at a summit in June as "steps in the right direction," but called for more fiscal and banking integration.

It urged the creation of a pan-European deposit insurance guarantee program and a mechanism to resolve failing banks, and called on the ECB to provide ample liquidity to support banks under "sufficiently lenient conditions."

It made clear, however, that Europe was not the only risk.

The IMF, which trimmed its U.S. forecasts slightly, said concerns were rising over a political battle brewing in Washington over how to avoid painful automatic spending cuts and tax increases at the start of next year.

The United States faces a "fiscal cliff" with the scheduled expiration of Bush-era tax cuts and $1.2 trillion in automatic spending reductions - enough budget tightening to knock the still-weak U.S. economy back into recession.

If the United States failed to deal with the "fiscal cliff" it could potentially be an "enormous shock" to the U.S. and other advanced economies, IMF Chief Economist Olivier Blanchard told a news conference.

Washington is also expected to run into the statutory $16.4 trillion cap on its debt before the end of the year, raising the prospect of a default absent congressional action to raise it.

While financial markets believe Congress and the White House will find a way to avoid a fiscal train wreck, the IMF warned of the "potential for a significant adverse market reaction" if that consensus view began to falter.

The IMF said while emerging economies, such as China, may no longer be growing at a rapid 10 percent annually, growth in these countries was likely to remain strong.

"It is really case by case but in general we think (emerging economies) will be able to increase demand and grow at fairly high rates," Blanchard said.

"The question here is whether these countries will be able to handle this slowdown in demand? Here we think they really have the policy space to do it," he said, "In terms of sustaining high growth, we think they can do it."

Earlier this year, policymakers in emerging economies were worried about large-scale capital inflows and excessive appreciation of their currencies. Now, concerns have shifted to a rapid depreciation and increased volatility in exchange rates. Currencies like the Brazilian real and Indian rupee have depreciated by between 15 and 25 percent in less than a quarter, the IMF noted.

The IMF cut its 2012 growth forecast for China to 8.0 percent from 8.2 percent, and said it now expects growth of 8.5 percent next year, down from 8.8 percent.

It revised its growth projections for India to 6.1 percent this year from 6.9 percent, and chopped its 2013 forecast to 6.5 percent from 7.3 percent.

Blanchard attributed the fall-off in Indian growth and investment to "political uncertainty about policy" and freezing of permits for infrastructure projects. The country faces tough elections by 2014 that are widely expected to produce a fragmented parliament with no clear winner.

Meanwhile, Africa's growth is still seen at a robust 5.4 percent this year and 5.3 percent in 2013, as the region remains relatively insulated from external financial shocks.

The IMF said growth in the Middle East will be stronger this year as key oil-producing countries boost production and Libya's economy rebounds from conflict in 2011, but it held its forecast for next year at 3.7 percent.

Google's Golden Kiss Doodle Honors Gustav Klimt

Google on Saturday commemorated Austrian artist Gustav Klimt's 150th birthday with a signature doodle that incorporates the symbolist painter's most famous work, The Kiss, in a gold-plated rendering of the search giant's logo.

Klimt, born outside of Vienna in 1862, was trained as an architectural painter at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts (Kunstgewerbeschule) and spent his early career exhibiting what the online Klimt museum describes as an "academic" style. In 1888, he was the recipient of Austria-Hungary's Golden Order of Merit from Emperor Franz Josef I for a series of murals he, his younger brother Ernst, and a friend, Franz Matsch, painted in Vienna's Burgtheater.

But Klimt would famously rebel against the restrictions of the conservative art establishment in his home city, helping to lead an artistic movement that became known as the Vienna Secession in the late 1890s. Prior to this period, the artist was beset with personal tragedy, losing both his brother Ernst Klimt and his father, a gold engraver also named Ernst Klimt, in 1892.

In the early 1890s, he met Emilie Fl?ge, the woman who would be his lifelong companion, though he would have other relationships and fathered 14 children with several different women.

The Vienna Secession movement embraced any and all artistic styles, helping to foster a period of tremendous experimentation in the art world in the last quarter of the 19th century that saw the invention of many new forms, aesthetics, and techniques in the visual arts?impressionism, Art Nouveau, symbolism, pointillism, etc.

Klimt's famous "Golden phase" saw the artist tap his family roots in working with the precious metal and begin to incorporate gold leaf in his paintings. Historians believe his first such work was 1898's Pallas Athene. Klimt's golden period culminated in the years 1907 and 1908 with a pair of arresting paintings using Byzantine imagery, the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I and The Kiss.

The latter painting, evoking Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts movement, was immediately recognized as a triumph for Klimt. The square, almost six foot-by-six foot painting now resides at the ?sterreichische Galerie Belvedere Museum in Vienna's Belvedere Palace. The Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, meanwhile, was purchased through Christie's in 2006 by Estee Lauder chairman and Neue Galerie New York founder Ronald Lauder for a then-record $135 million?though that transaction was not without controversy.

Klimt died in 1918 at the age of 55, one of the estimated 50 to 130 million victims of the "Spanish flu" epidemic that ravaged populations around the globe as World War I drew to a close.

NEW YORK (AP) - Chelsea of the English Premier League has announced its roster for its exhibition tour of the United States.

Among the 30 players set to take part in the four-match tour are veteran midfielder Frank Lampard, goalkeeper Petr Cech and former England captain John Terry, a defender who was acquitted Friday of racially abusing an opponent in a league match in October.

The tour features the first soccer match at the new Yankee Stadium, with Chelsea taking on Paris Saint-Germain on July 22 after opening the tour in Seattle against Sounders FC of Major League Soccer on July 18.

The Champions League winners will also face the MLS All-Stars in Philadelphia on July 25 and head to Miami for a July 28 match against AC Milan.

Sage Stallone Dead For at Least 3-4 Days Before Being Found, Officials Believe

Law enforcement personnel who found Sage Stallone dead he likely passed away at least 3-4 days and possibly a week before his body was discovered.

Off the record, sources say Sage Stallone, the son of acting legend Sylvester Stallone who famously appeared in Rocky V, had been living like a hermit.

Sage would spend days in his room, which was "littered with junk." A source called it a "disgusting" mix of cigarette butts, beer, soda cans and food.

There were also reportedly two drawers filled with various pill bottles, some of which were "huge." No one had spoken with Sage since Friday, July 6.

A housekeeper had been to his home at some point earlier this week, but had specific ongoing instructions never to enter Sage's room and did not.

The housekeeper was told to never even knock at the door for whatever reason, so it's certainly conceivable that he was in there for several days.

His mom, Sylvester Stallone's ex-wife Sasha Czack, called the housekeeper Friday after being unable to reach him and asked her to check on him.

That's when she discovered the body. From the evidence they saw - unofficially at least - investigators believe Sage's death was an accident.

Our thoughts are with his family in the wake of this sad story.
